Full Case Study (verbatim)

Cameron’s journey with Andover youth club almost didn’t start due to postcode boundaries. Living near Elthorne estate, a mile from Andover, Cameron faced hostility from two local boys when he first attended the club. They didn’t like him coming into their area and issued threats on social media. Our alert youth workers intervened, spoke to all boys involved, and de-escalated the situation, ensuring Cameron could attend safely. Despite this, Cameron exhibited behavioural issues. Our youth workers contacted his mother to discuss and offer support. It was revealed that Cameron had ADHD, dyslexia, anger issues, was known to police and at risk of school suspension. Living in an overcrowded home with a struggling single mum and two younger siblings, Cameron felt unheard and misunderstood. We began working with the family, connecting them to support services they weren’t aware of. We informed them about local food banks and early help services for household items. This ongoing support reduced family stress and improved their resilience and well-being. As a result, Cameron has made significant progress. With GCSE exams approaching, we provided 1-2-1 tutoring and mentoring. Our youth workers are helping him apply for colleges, apprenticeships, and future employment, considering his needs to find the best fit. Cameron has been with us for four months and has transformed. He is calmer, more positive, and in control of his life and emotions. We are grateful to offer him support and help build his resilience. We’ve even discussed him becoming a youth mentor for new participants. It’s been a pleasure to see him develop into a positive member of the club and his community.
